History of the Costa Rican Ornithology Conference

The first Costa Rican Ornithological Conference was held from May 20th to the 22, 1993, at the Universidad Nacional in Heredia. A group of motivated Costa Rican researchers saw the need to share the results of the investigations that were being carried out in the country with the scientific community and the public of the country.

After that first conference, it took 17 years for the second conference to take place. It ocurred at the Universidad de Costa Rica in San José, when the members of the Unión de Ornitólogos decided to conduct the conference again, given that these events are a great way to communicate the results of all researches carried out on birds in the country, both by Costa Rican and international researchers and students.

Since then, the conference has been held every two years with lectures given by renowned international researchers who conduct their work in Costa Rica or the Neotropics. This is the first time that the Costa Rican Ornithology Conference will be held in conjunction with an international conference.
